PURSE.
Specification of Letters Patent. 7 Patented Sept. 26, 1916.
Application filed February 9, 1916. Serial No. 77,169.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM B. URM- STON, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of El Paso, in the county of El Paso and State of Texas, have invented a new and Improved Purse, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description. I
My invention relates to purses of the general style shown in my application for patent filed January 14, 1916, Serial No. 72,061.
More particularly the present invention relates to a means for strapping the purse to the hand.
The invention will be particularly explained in the specific description following.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification in which similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a purse embodying my invention, showing the same strapped to a hand; Fig. 2 is a similar view with the purse partly open; Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the purse detached; Fig. 4 is a front view of the purse o'pened; Fig. 5 is a longitudinal vertical section of the purse in open form.
My invention is shown applied to a purse which includes a back 10 and afacing 11, thereby forming between said back and facing an elongated pocket 12 extending the full length of the purse and adapted to contain face powder. A flap 13 is formed in the facing 11 by making a crescent-shaped out, as at 13*, in said facing, as clearly shown in Fig. 4, to afford access to the powder pocket 12. On the facing 11, at one end, is a change pocket 14 of known form, that is, having collapsible sides 14*. The powder pocket and purse arrangement in thepresent application and that shown in my application above referred to are not dissimilar. A cover flap 15 is secured at one edge to an end of the purse by stitching passing through the back 10 and facing 11 as best seen in Fig. 5, and is adapted to fold down onto the flap 13 as in Fig. 2. Saidfiap 13 may have a looking-glass 16 applied thereto as in Figs. 4 and 5. The powder is placed through the opening at the flap 13 and will gravitate to the lower end of'the pocket, that is to say, behind the change pocket 14 and below the slit 13*, so that when the urse is folded, by doubling it on itself as at 10 Fig. 3, the pocket 12 will be closed above the powder therein and the change pocket 14 will also be closed.
In order to secure the purse to the hand, I provide a strap 17 so formed and arranged that the strap will be fastened by the same fastening means that holds the purse in the closed position. The said strap 17 is bifurcated at one end as at 18. The said members 18 are permanently secured by stitching or otherwise to the purse at opposite sides of the latter near the center or folding line. The single free end of the strap is formed with a longitudinal series ofholes 19, either one of which is adapted to receive the fastener stud 20 on the face of the pocket 14, there being a mating fastener socket 21 on the cover flap 15. With the described arrangement, the thumb is passed through the loop or opening formed by the members 18 of the strap with the purse lying on the palm of the hand, as shown in Fig. 1, and the said strap is brought across the back of the hand and the perforated end engaged with the stud 20, after which the flap 15 having been closed down onto the facing 11, the purse is folded on the line 10 and the respective fastener members, 20, 21, snapped into engagement. The arrangement permits the'purse to be opened by detaching the. fastener members without disturbing the connection of the strap with the stud 20. remove the purse from the hand, the strap may be readily detached from said stud.
Having thus described my invention I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. A purse having a hand strap bifurof'the wearer, said strap extending from the i1;
bifurcated end a sufficientv length to be brought about the hand of the wearer, the free end of the said strap having a longitudinal series of holes therein, a fastener stud on the purse at the face thereof adapted tobe received in any one of the said holes of the strap, and a socket fastener member on the purse at the interior near the opposite end and in position to engage said stud when the purse is doubled on itself.
2. A purse having a hand strap secured at one end to the purse, a fastener on the When, however, it is desired topurse, said fastener comprising separable name to this specification in the presence of rastener elements to close sald purse, sald two subscrlblng wltnesses.
strap having means at its free end to der tachably secure said free end to the purse WILLIAM URMS through the medium of the said purse-fas- WVitnesses: tener. 7 r C. W. BRETZ,
In testimony whereof I have signed In C. V. WAFE.
Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents, Washington, D. C.
