Description
H. KRMUT.
TooL, APPLICATION FILED SEPT. I-, 1912.
Pantnted Aug. 29, 1916.
HENRY KRAI'I` OF SUMMIT, NEW JERSEY.
TOOL.
11,196,703, Specification of Letters Patent. Patqgnjlgd Aug, 29, 1916 Application led September 17, 1912. Serial No. 720,856. i
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY KRAUT, a subject of the Emperor of Germany, residing at Summit, in the county of Union and /State of New Jersey, have invented new and useful Improvements in Tools, of whichthe following is a specification.1
rllhis invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in tools and more especially to a combination tool that may be used for various purposes;
To these ends the invention consists inthe through which is passed and securely held therein two parallel wire rods 2 and 3.
These rods extend approximately an 'equal distance beyond the ends of the handle and have securelyheld to their outer ends stationary jaws 4 and 5, the upper part of the l jaw 4 of which forms the stationary jaw 6 titi of a monkey wrench, and thelower part of which is extendedto form a hammer 7.
Slidably mounted on the rods 2 and 3 is the movable jaw 8 of the wrench whichis provided with a recess 9 within which is mounted an adjusting screw 10. The adjusting screw contacts with the'screw threaded portion 11 on the rod 2 and is adapted to hold the sliding jaw 7 of the wrench in any desired adjusted position.
A scale or rule 12 is provided on the lower side edge of the handle 1 which may be con veniently used for quick measurement when desired.
rlhe stationary jaw 5 secured to the outer ends of the rods 2 and 3 opposite to the wrench end, forms the stationary jaw of a clamp and is provided with an upwardlyextending clamp portion 13 and a lower extending clamp portion 14, which portion 14 is also provided with a semi-cylindrical groove or recess 15, which is adapted to rev instance if it is desired to be used as a solderlng device, the movable jaw is firstopened against the tension of the spring, a small piece of soldering wire is then inserted between the smooth vertical gripping faces upon the jaw or disposed within the groove and the movable jaw is released to engage with the soldering wire at a point diametrically opposite the center thereby securely clamping the soldering wire and holding the same in a rigid manner.
From the foregoing it will be seen that by the use of a tool constructed in accordance with my invention, not only a great saving of time will be effected but that a comparatively simple, cheap and durable tool will always be ready for use and that the parts zannot become separated and misplaced or ost'.
It is obvious that those skilled in the art may vary the details of construction and arrangements of parts without departing from the spirit of my invention and therefore l do not wish to be limited to such features except as may be required by the claim.
What is claimed as new is:
In a wrench, in combination, a bar-like handle, a pair of parallel wire rodsextending forwardly of said handle and secured thereto at one end, a stationary jaw secured centrally upon both of said wire rods and having a flat side projecting in opposite directions and at right angles from said rods to provide an upper and lower extending clamp portion, one of said clamp portions longitudinally and terminally recessed to form a groove opening out of its fiat side and through its end as well, a-slidable jaw having openings through which both of said. Arods project and also having a flat side adapted to contact the flat side of said stationary jaw and also providing upper and lower clamp portions one of which 1s adapted to close the side of said recess in the sta- In testimony whereof I ax my signature tionary jaw so as to leave its end open only, in presence of two witnesses. and a spring coiled around one of said rods HENRY KRAUT. bearing against said bar-like handle at one Witnesses:
