Description

G. HAMMOND. LOCK MECHANISM FOR FIREARMS.
' APPUCATION FILED JULY 2|. I915- A 1,1 84,950. Patented May 30,1916.
WITNESSES.-
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GRANT -HAMMOND, OF HARTFORD. CONNECTICUT. ASSIGNOR TO DALTON ARMS COR- PORATION. OF NEW YORK. N. Y.. A CORPORATTON OF NEW YORK.
LOCK MECHANISM FOR FIREARMS.
Application filed July 21,1915.
Be it known that l. (luixx'r llxunoxn, a eitixen of the l'nited States. and a resident of Hartford. in the eounty of Hartford and State of ('onneetieut. have invented a new and Improved Lot-k .\lerhani m t'or Firearms, of which the following is a speeifieation.
My invention relates to the meehanism for eontrolling the operation of the tiring pin in firearms, and an objeet of my invention, among others, is to provide meehanism for this purpose that shall be cheap in eon struction, etfieient in operation, and little liable to be injuriously atfeeted by dust, smoke, or other impurities.
A form of firearm embodying, my invention and in the construction and use of which the objects herein set out, as well as others, may be attained, is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which" Figure l is the side view of a portion of a firearm embodying my invention, with parts broken away to show the eonstruetion. Fig. 2 is a detail View in cross section through the, tirearm on plane denoted by dotted line 2 2 in Fig. 1.
My invention is not iimited to use in a firearm of any speeial eonstruetion, but as it readily adapts itself to that type that is held by a. person and discharged from the shoulder, sueh type has been seleeted by me for the purpose of illustration herein.
In the aeeompanying: drawings the numeral 1O denotes a stock and ll the lore end of my improved firearm, which parts are preferably eonstrueted of wood in a manner common to devices of this kind, and which parts are properly chambered and recessed to receive the metallie members of the structure, which. in the present instance. include a receiver '12, a trigger plate 1 se cured to the reeeiver by serews l5 and a barrel 1 1 secured to the reeeiver in any suit able manner. A breech-bolt It; is mounted for reciprocating movement in a lueeeln bolt ehamber in the receiver, and a tiring pin 17 extemling: into the breeeh-lmlt has a head 18 secured thereto and projecting beyond the end thereof. As the eonstruetion of the parts above referred to will be readily understood, turther and detailed deseription is omitted herein.
A breeelnbolt sleeve 19 is seeured to the rear end of the breech-bolt as by means of Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 30, 1916.

The e0nstruetion herein shown *and described may be changed to a greater or lesser extent and yet be within the spirit and intent of the invention.
I elation- 1.. A firing mechanism for a firearm including a receiver, a sear pivotally mounted in said receiver, a trigger pivotallv mounted on the sear and having a part to engage said rereiver, and a spring pressed member loeated in one of said parta and preesing against the opposite part to three both of said members to their positions of rest,
2. A firing mechanism for a firearm including a receiver, a sear pivotally mounted in said reeeiver, a trigger pivotally mounted on the sear and having a part to engage said reeeiver, and a spring pressed member located in the trigger and pressing against the sear to force both the trigger and seal to their positions of rest.
3. A tiring mechanism for a firearm including a receiver having a lot extending through its bottom wall, a breech bolt mounted in the rereiver. a $0211 pivotallv mounted in said slot, a trigger pivotally attached to said sear, and a spring pressed member located between the trigger and sear to force the sear toward the breechbolt and to force the trigger.
4. A tiring mechanism for a firearm inr-luding a receiver having a slot through its bottom wall, a breech-bolt mounted in the receiver, a sear pivotall}; mounted in said slot a trigger having a forked end within which said ear is received. said trigger be ing pivotally attached to the sear, and a. spring actuated presser n'ioimted in the trigger and thrusting against said sear to retain the trigger and ear in their poeitions of rest.
A firing merhanism for a firearm ineluding a rereiver, a sear pivotallv mounted in said receiver, a trigger having" a grooved end within which said sear is reeeived, a well extending invvardl from the bottom of said groove, a pivot uniting the sear and trigger, a presaer mounted in said well. and a spring underlying the pi'wser.
