IMPROVEMENT IN TOBACCO-PIPES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 115,363, dated May 30,1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WELIAM G. RUG-E, of Holstein, in the county of Warren and State of Missouri, have invented a new and Improved Tobacco-Pipe; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will .enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same,

A is the bowl, and B the part to which it is attached. The latter has a socket for reception of the ends 0 of the bowl,'and it is provided with a female screw-thread. The ends 0 have small threads for screwing into the socket. Bayonet-fastenings or other equivalent means of securingthe bowl maybe employed, as preferred. Each end may have a safety-cap, if preferred.
This plan has several advantages over the pipes as commonly constructed; for instance, in the common pipes the water expelled from the tobacco settles to the bottom,'which soon becomes so wet as to prevent the free operation of the pipe, and the mouth of the passage into the stem often clogs, and they require lighting each time they are filled, all of which objections are avoided by my improved pipe.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as. new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A tobacco-pipe having a detachable and reversible bowl, all substantially as specified.
