Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 17, 1915.
Application led Gctober 3, 1913. Serial No; 793,156,
To all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, JAMES MILLAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at 34 Reed street, VVaycross, in the county of Ware and State of Georgia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Door-Sheaves, of which the following is a specification.
vand quickly adjusted vertically, 'with respect to the supporting wheel orsheave that forms a part of the hanger, thereby obviatingany tendency to bind caused by uneven adjustment. A
A further object of the invention is to produce a simple and improved construction and arrangement of parts whereby the desired adjustment may be eected simply by turning an adjusting screw and without necessity for removing screws', bolts or other fastening devices.
With these and other ends in view which will readily appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the improved construction nand novel arrangement and combination of parts which will be hereinafter fully described and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings has been illustrated a simple and preferred form of the invention, it being, however, understood that no limitation is necessarily made to the precise structural detailstherein exhibited,
but that changes, alterations and modilications within the scope of the claim may be resorted to when desired.
In the drawings,-Figure 1 is a rear elevation of a portion of a door to which one of my improved hangers has been applied, the casing of the same being shownin dotted lines. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the same. Fig. 3 is a front View ofthe yoke part of the hanger, the hanger casing being partly broken away. Fig. 4 is a sectional view taken on the line 4-4 in Fig. 3.
Corresponding parts in theseveral figures are denoted by like characters of reference.
The improved device comprises in its construction a casing member A and a yoke member B. The casing member consists of a plate or casing lhaving in the outer or front face thereof a vertical brecess 15 which is bridged by horizontal iianges 16. The recess 15 is formed about midway between the vertical side edges of the plate or ca sing, thus producing relatively thick side portions 17, the rear faces of `which are provided with vertical grooves 18 for the accommodation ofthe limbs 19 of the yoke member B. The yoke member includes a horizontal frame 20 of rectangular form adapted to overhang the upper edge of the door D to which the invention is applied, and the limbs 19 which extend downwardly from the forward portion of the frame 20 are adapted to slide vertically in the recesses 18 of the casing member A, which latter is firmly secured on the door D by fastening members, such as bolts 21.
Fixed on the front face of the rectangular frame 20 is a bearing member 22 havirig a vertical threaded bore 23 wherein is threaded the upper end of a bolt 24 which extends loosely through apertures 25 in the flanges 16, said bolt being provided with a head 26 abutting on the lowerrnost flange. It will be readily seen that byturning the bolt- 24 vertical adjustment of the yoke member relatively to the casing member may be effected. The side walls of the rectangular frame 20 which forms a part of the yoke member are provided with longitudinal slots 27 that receive the axle 28 of a supporting wheel or sheave 29. A track member 30 has been indicated on which the sheave 29 may roll.
It is evident that in the practical operation of this invention, two hangers will be required, such hangers being mounted adjacent to the upper corners of the door that isy to be. supported. Any irregularity in the adjustment which results in the door or either end thereof hanging too high or too low may be quickly and accurately corrected by proper adjustment of the bolt 24, such adjustment being-effected easily, quickly and without necessity for detaching any parts.
l'lav'ing thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, is
The combination with a door, of a hanger for said door comprising a casing member and ayoke member; said casing member being secured on the faceof thev door Vand having in its rear side vertical grooves constituting guideways which are bounded on one side by the face of the door, said facing member being provided in its front face with a vertical reoess intermediate the guide- Ways and with apertured flanges bridging said recess; said yoke member comprising a rectangular frame overhanging the upper edge of the door, and limbs extending from said frame downwardly through the guide- Ways of the casing member, a sheave supported for rotation in the frame of the yoke member, and a bearing member fixed on the yoke member and having a vertical thread ed bore; and an adjusting bolt extending loosely through the apertured f langes of the casing member in threaded engagement with the bore of the bearing member and having 15 a. head abutting on the lowermost iange member.
In testimony whereof I aix my signature in preseneeof two Witnesses.
AMES MILLAN.
