Description
Fl Cl" I BUCKLE. APPLICATION FILED DEC- 5, 1912.
Patented June 15,, 1915.
FREDERICK C. REHM, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN.
BUCKLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed December 6, 1912. Serial No. 735.181.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDERICK C. Ri-nnr, citizen of the United States, residing at Detroit, county of \Vayne, State of h-Iichigan, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Buckles, and declare the fol lowing to be a full, clear, andexact description of the same, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in buckles for hose, belts, or other garment supporters, though it may be employed to advantage for many other purposes.
One of the objects of the invention is to provide means whereby the length oi" the strap carrying the buckle may be readily and quickly adjusted to any degree necessary to accommodate the wearer without injury or mutilation of the strap, the strap being firmly held in its adjusted position until again released.
' Other features of the device consists in providing means for linking the members carried by the respective ends of the strap together, and in so constructing the device that a proper fit of the strap may be had after first linking the members together by pulling the free end of the strap through the sliding member of the buckle until the desired adjustment is obtained; (means being provided to automatically secure the strap against accidental release when so adjusted)no subsequent adjustment of the parts being required or necessary when the members forming the buckle are again released or connected together.
Other advantages and improvements will hereafter appear.
In the drawings accompanying this specification:Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the respective members comprising the buckle linked together and engaged with a fragmentary portion of the strap. Fig. 2 is an enlarged longitudinal sectional view through the buckle and a fragmentary portion of the strap. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the slidable member of the buckle. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of a modifica. tion of the member shown in Fig. 3.
Referring now to the letters of reference placed upon the drawings :A ,indicates a strap for a garter or other like device.
B denotes one member of the buckle which is fixedly secured in any suitable manner to one end of the strap.
C is a slidable member struck up out of a single piece oi? metal being formed with a central bar O around which the strap A is looped.
C is a lip projecting rearwardly from the body portion of the member O at substantially right angles thereto. The free end a of the strap A, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, is threaded through the slots 0, 0, provided in the member C and bent back upon itsclf, the free end bearing against the rearwardly projecting lip C which serves to secure it automatically when. the strap is adjusted. To tighten thestrap to the re quirements of the wearer, it is only necessary to grasp the free end a of the strap and pull it through the member C until the proper fit is obtained. loosened by grasping the member C and tilting it so as to relieve the pressure of the lip C against the strap which may then be drawn through the members O in the reverse order to that just described. To release the garter. it is only necessary to disengage the hooked member of the buckle from. the slidable member avoiding the necessity of readjusting the strap when the device is again worn.
In the modification shown in Fig. 4, the device is provided with cross bars 0', 0, on the same plane, and an intermediate off-set cross bar c -the purpose of the latter being to force the strap in close contact with the back of'the bars 0, c, and against the edge of the rearwardly projecting lip C thereby insuring a more perfect locking engagement between the strap and buckle when adjusted.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is A strap-securing device for a garter, in cluding an arcuate or quadrant frame-mem her having a central transverse bar, end transverse bars and openings intermediate its central and end transverse bars, one end bar having a lip at right angles thereto, said Patented June 15, 1914" The strap may be lip extending from said end bar within the In testimony whereof, I sign this specifiradius of said quadrant frame-member, cation in the presence of two witnesses.
with its free end about in alinement with the distant or opposite end bar of said frame- FREDERICK REIIM' 5 member, whereby the central portion of said Witnesses:
frame-member will at all times be held out GRACE E. WVYNKOOP,
of contact with the leg or object. SAMUEL E. THOMAS.
