UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DAVID G. MORGAN, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.
MULTIPLE-NUT LOCK.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, DAVID G. MoncAN, a citizen'of theUnited States, residing in the city and county of San Francisco'and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Multiple-Nut Locks, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to nut locks and pertains especially to a lock for nuts or clips of automobiles, fish plates and wherever there are usually a'pair ofadjacent nuts and it may be desired from time to time quickly to remove these nuts.
' The object of the invention is to provide a 'parts and without the application of any tools orspecial appliances and without requiring any intrinsic alterations of structure; I
The invention consists of the parts and the combination and construction of parts as hereinafter more fully described and claimed, having reference to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective of the lock applied to a clip. Fig. 2 is a perspective of the lock vdetached and separated.
'Aisan ordinary U-shaped clip embracing a part or parts 2, such as an axle and spring a on an automobile.
The nut lock comprises a coupler plate 3 perforated to pass over the threaded ends 4 of the clip A and having approximately midway of its ends on its flat side an outwardly opening U-shaped spring clip 5 to form a substantially dove-tail spring clamp and 3 seat for holding a locking bar 6; the clamp- '-Gopies of this patent may be obtained for Specification of Letters Patent.

Application filed June 29, 1914. Serial No. 847,843.
ing clip 5 being riveted, or otherwise fixed to the coupler plate 3 so as to provide the OOITiXBI'gQIIt spring arms forming the clovetai a The locking bar 6 has squared ends and is of a length just to fit between the nuts 7 when two of their adjacent sides are parallel. Bar 6 is preferably trapezoidal in cross-section, so that its outwardly convergent side edges 8, will when the bar is pressed in between the spring arms of the clamp clip 5, be received into the dove-tail shaped space inclosed by clip 5 and the bar thus securely held in place without other means. Any tendency to turning by the nuts 7 simply operates to hold the locking bar 6 the tighter. A screw driver serves to pry the lock bar out of the clip and from between the two nuts whenever it is desired to dismantle the parts.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A lock for the nuts of a pair of bolts con sisting of a plate aperturcd at its ends to receive the respective bolts, a U-shaped spring clip formed independent of the plate and having its base riveted to the outer side face of the plate at a point central of the length of the plate and a locking bar engageable with the clip and at its ends with the nuts, each of the ends of said bar being held in spaced relation to the outer side face of the plate by the said base of the clip whereby to allow an instrument to be inserted in said space at either end of the bar and the bar thereby disengaged from the clip.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
