LEONARD STARR, OF FOND DU LAC, VIL'SCONSIN.
VEGETABLE-CUTTER.
Specification oi Letters Patent.
Application filed December 3, 1913. Serial No. 8e4/L93.
To all whom it may concern Be it lniown that l, LEONARD STARR, a citizen of the United States7 residing at Fond du Lac, in the county of Fond du Lac and State of Vliseonsin7 have invented new and useful improvements in Vegetable-Cutters, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to vegetable cutters and it consists in the novel features hereinafter described and claimed.
An object of the invention is to provide a cutter of the character indicated which is of simple structure and which may be easily and quickly used for the purpose of reducing potatoes7 beets or similar vegetables to comparatively small particles for feeding cattle and so forth.
With this object in view the cutter comprises a frame which is adapted to be positioned across the upper end of a tub, bucket or other receptacle and across which is stretched a thin metallic ribbon which operates as a knife for cutting the vegetables as they are pressed or forced by the same.
ln the accoinpanying` drawings-Figure 1 is a perspective view of the vegetable cutter. Figs. 2 and 3 are a longitudinal section and plan View respectively.
rlhe vegetable cutter comprises relatively long side pieces 1 and relatively short cross pieces 2. The ends of the cross pieces Qbear against the inner' surfaces of the side pieces l and cross brace rods 3 connect the end portions of the side pieces 1 together. While the side pieces 1 are parallel with relation to each other the cross pieces 2 are in synclinal relation.
A thin metallic ribbon 4 is threaded through the side pieces 1 between the cross pieces Q, and is secured at its ends in any suitable manner in the side pieces 1. The intermediate laps of the ribbon et terminate in loops which are disposed beyond the outer surfaces of the side pieces 1 and wedge members 6 forced down in the loops 5 whereby the intermediate laps or folds of the ribbon d are drawn tight. rlthis ribbon i serves as the knife of the cutter.
ln operation the side pieces 1 are placed across the edges of a tub or other receptacle and the potatoes or vegetables to be cut are poured or deposited upon the upper edges of the ribbon t. The vegetables are then forced in a downward direction between the folds of the ribbon and the ribbon reduces the said 'vegetables to slices or comparatively small particles adapted to be used as food for stock.
Therefore it will be seen that a cutter of simple structure is provided and that the same may be easily and conveniently used for reducing vegetables to small particles for stock feed or other purposes.
Having described the invention what is claimed is il cutter comprising a frame, a metallic ribbon threaded through the opposite sides of the frame and secured at its ends to the frame and having loops which are disposed beyond the out-er surfaces of the frame and movable tensioning members interposed loetween the inner parts of the loops and the outer surfaces of the sides of the frame.
ln testimony whereof l affix my signature in presence of two witnessesA LEONARD STARR.
Witnesses Vina Rnronar'r, Lao Ancona.
