lle itknown that I, Max ToLrz, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Paul, llaiiisey county, Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements 1n Steniii-Superheaters, of which the followin" is a full, clear, and exact description, suei as will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the saine.
My invention' relates to improvements In steam superlieaters and has special reference to improved means for connecting superlieatcr elements, tubes, vor ,loops with the saturate and superheated -st'eam headers, which therewith, comprise the superheater.
The object of my invention is to rovide an improved superheater, in wlnci each element, tube or loop, so-called, of the superheater shall be separately connected with the siiperlieater headers in such manner that they may be quickly disconnected from the sinne and as easily reeoniieeted. Other objects of the invention will appear hereinafter.
My invention consists generally in superlieater headers having openings or ducts in their sides, in combination with a block or connector. suitably secured to the headers and containing angle'or elbow passages which communicate with respective openings or ducts thereof, and a superheater element tube or loop, the ends of which are attached to said block and communicate with respective elbow passages therein.1
'lhc invention also consists in various details of construction and in combinations of parts, all as hereinafter described and particularly pointed out in the claims.
My invention will be more readily understood by reference to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification and in whichz Figure l is a vertical sectional view, illustrating a saturate steam header, a superheated steam header, andA two superheater elements or loops connected therewith, in accordance with my invention; Fig. 2 is a planview, and Fig. 3 is a. detailed vertical section on the line X X of Fig. 2.

lThe ends of the superheatcr loops are connected with the saturate and su erheated steam headers A and B, which atter are connected respectively to the .dry pipe of the boiler and ,to the steam chest or chests of the engines. The superlieater elements 4, 4 conduct the steam from the saturate steam header A to the superheated steam header B, and the loops or elements being subjected to the heat of the fire box gases in the tiues 3 the steam flowing in said elements is raised to a high temperature before being delivered to the steani chests of the engines.
My invention is particularly concerned with the improvement of the means of connecting the su )crheater elements with the headers, and shall hereinafter describe these connections in detail. But first I desire that it shall be understood that the tire tubeil in Fig. 2 is representative of a row of tire tubes extending across the boiler or vertically therein, arallel with, and according to the osition of, the steam headers A and B; w iich latter may be arranged either' horizontally or. vertically in the lsmoke box of the boiler. In like manner the tubes, 3 3, of Fig. 1 represent not one row but two parallel rows of fire tubes, which obviously are parallel to the headers. I prefer thatthe headers shall be arranged edge to edge, that is, one in front of the other, and that they shall occupy a position relatively between the two rows of enlarged fire flues in the boiler. 'llie snperheater elcnients are of identical construction throughout but occupy reverse positions in the parallel rows of flues. The ends of the superheater pipes or elements extend out of the fire tubes 3 and lie parallel with the sides of thi headers, projecting part way across the si( e.
The headers A and B are )referably of the saine thickness, so that their sides A B are in the saine'planes. I prefer that the headers shall be substantially separate, as indicated by the slots, a, in Fig. 2, but preferably form tliein in a single casting the adjacentl edges being connected by the'integral webs b. The webs b, between the headl ers A and B are arranged at the sinne intervals as the pairs of fire tubes 3 3, and each web is provided with a square hole c, as indicated by dott-ed lines in Fig. 2. These square holes extend from side to side of the headers and are adapted to contain the bolts 5, by means of which the hereinafter described'connectors, belonging'l to the pairs of superheater elements, are fastened or secured upon the sides of the headers. The

From the foregoing it will be understood that a plurality or large number of pairs of superheater elements are Vconnected with a single pair of headers, A and B In speak- .ing of the headers I Ashall refer to the up.

It will vbe obvious that the plug may be removed at Aany time when it is necessary vto close or repair the end of the ele that the plugs 8, 8 thereof are presented on 4the-outer side ofA the supcrheater, in which positions they are readily accessible from Vthe front of the smoke box. The inner side or end 9 of the block or connector'is pref-` erably faced off perpcndicularly to the ends of thesuperheater pipes, but the'irregular intermediate surface bet-Ween the'se surfaces n eed not be finished. The middle of each connector contains a hole for the bolt 5.
The connectors are directly'opposite' one another on the sides of the headers though preferably reversed in position, and the bolt 5 extends through both connectorsor blocks. The ends of the bolt are threadedl and the connectors are tightened on. the headers by means of nuts 5', and the bolt maybe taken out and both connectors freed from the headers on removal of either of the nuts 5. Separate'boltsor cap screws may be used with the connectors or blocks, but the single bolt is best, particularly in cases where several pairs of superheater heade'rs are used in the same superheater, in which `case the pairs of headers occupy parallel positions and the bolts must be removed from the outer sidesthereof.
As various modifications of my invention will readily suggest themselves to one skilled in the art, I do notconfine the invention to the specific constructions herein shown and described. n

In a steam superheater, a superheater element or loop adapted to be placed in the flue of a boiler, in combination with a connector or block joining the ends ,of said loopand provided with cavities, coaxial with, and to receive respective ends thereof, plugs closing the outer ends of said cavities and said cavities having substantially right angled ducts for connection to 'saturate and superheated steam headers respectively, substantially as described.
