IINITED IA IE% PATENT @IFFIQE.
THOMAS E. BUCK, OF NEXNARK, NEW JERSEY.
SCISSORS-SHABPENER.
Application filed April 26, 1913.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS E. BUCK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey. have invented a new and useful Scissors-Sharpener, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to new and useful improvements in sharpeners and more particularly to scissors Sharpeners.
The object of the invention is the provision of a sharpener having a guide secured thereto for giving the proper angle to the scissors while sharpening.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter de scribed and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed can be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawings :-Figure 1 is a perspective view. Fig. 2 is a front view. Fig. 3 is a side view. Fig. i is a top plan View. Fig. 5 is a side view of a slightly modified form of the invention.
In the drawings, the numeral 1 indicates a handle and 2 a rod of carborundum having the central core 3 of steel. Slidably mounted on this rod 2 is the guide plate t and this guide plate is secured to the rod by means of the arms 5 which encircle the rod. As shown in the drawings the arms are secured to the plate 4t at an angle so that when the guide is in position on the rod it will be set at an angle as more clearly shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 14,1913.
Serial No. 763,870.
In Fig. 5 of the drawings I have shown a slightly modified form of my invention which merely consists of the handle 6 and rod 7 of steel to which the guide plate 4 is secured in the same manner as described in the main form of the invention. As will be noted the only difference in the modified form is that I do not use the coating of carb-orundum around the steel.
When the scissors are being sharpened they are held in the position indicated in Fig. 1 the blades being on opposite sides of the rod and against the guide plate as shown. The scissors are drawn away from the rod at the same time the blades gradually closing thereby always holding the blades in contact with the rod and guide plate. By this arrangement the proper angle is always given the scissors to assure a good edge.
Having thus described the invention what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A scissors sharpener comprising a rod and a guide having a curved upper edge secured to the rod. 7
2. A scissors sharpener comprising a rod and a guide having a curved upper edge secured diagonally across the face of the rod.
3. A scissors sharpener comprising a rod and a guide having a curved upper edge adjustably secured to the rod, said guide being of greater width than the rod.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
THOMAS F. BUCK.
I'Vitnesses:
