The latter is furthermore provided in its interior surface with a longitudinally extending groove or recess 27 which in the operation ofthe device serves as a by-pass to establish a-communication between` the ports 26 and 24 and through them between the passages 22 and 23 in the valve 8.
A' When .the valve is in the position shown in Figs. l and 2, its 'handle is in its central position over the spout 7, the communication between the passages 22 and 23 is es-l tablished by means of the by-pass, as above explained, and the orifice of the spout 7 is closed so that the waterentering the bore 5 of the faucet-body will How only into andout of the bubbling-cup -l5. An adjustnient of the valve-handle to 'either the right or the left will cause the flow of water to thecup to gradually diminish and eventu" ally stop; by turning the handle farther to the right until itis at an angle of about .s ninety degrees to its former position, as is shown in F ig. 3 of the drawings, t-he port 26 is brought in communication with the orifice 28 of the spout and the ports connected with the upper passage'23 are closed with the result that the Water entering the faucet-body is discharged only through the spout 7, and by turning the handle farther to the leftuntil it has assumed a position at approximately ninety degrees to its cen.-
tral position, as is illust-rated in Fig. 4, the port 25 is brought in register with the orifice 28 of the spout and the cup is in consequence, drained through the latter.
It will be observed that, inasmuch as faucets are made of many different forms and constructions, variations in the form and arrangement of the parts included in my invention must necessarily be resorted to,
to renderit applicable to faucets which in and I wish itunderstood that such variations may be availedA of within the spirit of my invention.
Having thus described my invention what I claim and desire to secure by Letters-Patent is: y
1. A faucetcomprising a body having an inlet and an outlet, a Valve in said body, and a bubbling cup, lsaid valve having, internally, separate passages respectively in communication with said inlet and said cup, `and in its exterior surface, ports connecting with the respective passages, one of said ports being disposed to register with said outlet, and the said body having -a bypass for establishing communication between said ports.
2. A faucet comprising a body having an inlet and an outlet, a valve in said body,
and a cup, said valve having internally'fseparate passages respectively in communication with said inlet and said cup,
and inits exterior surface, a pair of ports connected with one of said passages and a third port connected with the other passage, the said third4 port and one of said pair of ports being disposed to register with said outlet, and the said body having a by-pass for establishing communication between said third port and the other port of said pair.
