To all whom it may mam.-
Be it known that I, JULIUS ject of the Czar of Russia, and resident of Chelsea, in the county'of Sufiolk and State of IMassachusetts, have invented new and useful Improvements in Lamp-Brackets, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to lamp brackets, and particularly adjustable lamp brackets adapted to be mounted on the handle bar of a motor cycle or bicycle, and capable of universal adjustment whereby a" lamp of ordinary construction maybe readily applied to various shapes and sizes ofhandle bars.
The invention consists in the novel and "improved structure hereinafter described and particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawin s, which illustrate one embodiment of t e inven tion, Figure 1 isa perspectlve view of one vof. a pair of lamp brackets containing the invention, showing it in position on the handlebar of a cycle; Fig. 2 is a side elevation of one of said brackets; Fig. 3 is a longitudinal, vertical section through is arear elevation of the bracket.
Referring to the drawings, .a represents a lamp supporting arm having an upturned forward end a to engage the usual socket in the lamp, and b and 0 represent respectively movable clamping members,
the motor cycle or bicycle. 1 The clamping member 6 is made with the lip I) having one or more slots b and the clamping member 0 has a tongue 0' which engages one of the is possible to apply the clamp to handle. bars widely differing in diameter.
The adjustable connectionfbetween the clamp and the lamp-supporting arm a, by which the arm a may be either swung in a horizontal. plane, or rocked on its axis to swing the end a in a vertical plane, comprises a socket member consisting of the block 03 having an aperture or socket d in its body, and a threaded bolt 03 projecting from one side of the body. The bolt 03 passes throu h holes'provided therefor in the ends of t e clampingmembers 6 and c.
A U-shaped clip e having a hole 6 through which the bolt d passes, fits over the block d between the arm a and the clamping menibers, and its ends are provided with curved MEL'rz, a subsaid bracket; Fig. 4' is a front elevation, partly in section, on line 4.-4 of Fig. 2; and Fig. 5
oppositely curved as shown to grip the handle bar of having more than one slotb it ircesses or notches e which engage the annular retaining grooves a of arm a and prevent the arm from slippmg endwise through arm a to'turn on its axis in the block at. A nut 11 secures together the block (1, clamping members I) and c, the clip a and the arm a, after they have been assembled and adjusted to the desired position. When the nut 03 is loosened it will be seen that the arm a may be adjusted vertically by swinging or turningthe clamping members 6, a, on the handle bar, or horizontally by means of the swivel connection afi'orded between the bolt 03 in the clamping members, or axially to rock the projection a by turning the arm a in block (2. Thus a strong and convenient lamp bracket is provided, capable of universal adjustment, and fastened by a single nut.
I claim:
1. Alamp bracket, comprising an arm, a pair of relatively movable clamping .members, adjustable connection between the arm and the clamping members comprising a socket member havin an arm-socket, swivel connection between-the socket member and the clamping members, rocking connection between the arm and the socket of the socket member, a movable clip adapted to prevent the displacement of the arm from the socket, and a single nut and bolt adapted to secure all of said parts in adjusted position.
2. A lamp bracket, comprising an arm, a pair of relatively movable clamping members,- and adjustable connection between't-he arm and the clamping members comprising a block having an aperture therethrough in which the end of the arm fits, a threaded bolt on said block passing through the ends of the clamping members, a clip between-the arm and the clampin members to engage nut on said bolt to bind all of said parts together.
3. A lamp bracket, comprising an arm, a pair of relatively movable clamping members, and adjustable connection between the arm and the clamping members comprising a block having an aperture therethrough in which the end of the arm fits, a threaded bolt on said block passing through the ends of the clamping'members, said arm having an annular retaining groove near its end, a clip between the arm and the clamping members to engage said groove, and a nut on said bolt to bind all of said parts together.
the blockd, but at the same time permit the and securethe arm within its socket, and a the arm and'the clamping members,"the ends of said clip engaging said grooves, and a *h'titon-sztiiibolt to bind all of said partsto- I gether. I i
