Abstract

A structure for retaining lubrication oil at the sliding surface of a shaft seal device disposed within an oil chamber of a submersible pump. A cylindrical wall member is disposed to surround a double-type shaft seal device disposed within an oil chamber provided between a motor chamber and a pump chamber. The cylindrical wall member is provided with a guide member having a slanted surface for causing the lubrication oil to flow upward in a regulated manner. The upper edge of the cylindrical wall member is located above a sliding surface between an upper floating seat and a seal ring and is in close proximity to a motor-side housing in order to form an annular space between the motor-side housing and the upper edge of the cylindrical wall member. The annular space server as an oil outlet groove. The lower edge of the cylindrical wall member is in contact with a pump-side housing, and a cut-away portion is provided at the lower edge such that an oil inlet groove is formed along a contact surface between the lower edge of the cylindrical wall member and the pump-side housing. Through the above-described structure, the lubrication oil effectively lubricates and cools the sliding surface of the shaft seal device, without causing the mixture of air into the lubrication oil.
