Description
MOBILE PHONE EMPOWERED WIRELESS DIGITAL SIGNAGE SYSTEM
The present invention relates to a system and method for dynamic content display used for information or advertising. More specifically the present invention relates to a professional digital signage displaying system whose network and content management can be done remotely and wirelessly through specially designed system configuration using GSM/GPRS. In addition the digital signage system can run same content or different content for different screens remotely and wirelessly on a monthly subscription outsourced model. Further more, by configuring the end user’s mobile phone number to the server, partial empowerment over the playlist configuration, numeric content changes and scheduling can be given. The present invention relates to a subscription based model of advertising or information distribution using wireless connectivity from our server and the end user mobile phone.
Digital signage is a system comprising of a plurality of digital display screens dispersed throughout the areas open to the public such as airports, railway stations shopping malls, chain retail stores/eating outlet chain, retail service providers ranging from banks to beauty salons.
Variety of information such as information on a product or service and advertising clips related to products and services available in the above mentioned areas are displayed on the screen at regular intervals. Digital signs such as LCD, LED, plasma displays, or projected images, can be found in public and private environments, such as retail stores and corporate buildings. In digital signage advertising, contents and messages are displayed on digital signs with a common goal of delivering targeted messages to specific locations at specific times. In contrast to the traditional billboards displaying printed matters, digital signage displays all kind of contents including text, images, animations, video, audio and interactivity.
The digital signage systems in the prior art have several drawbacks. Primarily, distributing and managing contents in large scale is difficult. The existing modes for managing digital signage are either independent mode or a network mode. In the independent mode, the user controls the contents through on screen display, which is suitable only for LAN based network with few digital signages and not for large digital signage system spread across different locations. In the : network mode it does provide for digital signage system across different locations using internet.
Moreover, in the prior art systems of the network mode, the contents of the information displayed are determined by the system manager who uses the materials supplied by their clients who thereby pays to have their advertisement displayed. The contents are displayed in a series of short video clips played one after the other. All the screens placed in the vicinity can only play the same advertisement or show the same information at a time. In addition, the contents must be regularly updated to ensure that the correct messages are being displayed. This is done manually as and when needed. As such there is no single solution available for handling multiple aspects of digital signage advertising including ad creation, transaction, routing distribution, remote network management and trouble shooting and partial empowerment of the playlist, scheduling and content using the end user's mobile phone.
Some attempts have been made in the past to deal with overcoming the said limitations of the prior art as given below.

IPC is configured to enable wireless communication and transmission of data with the web server (3) and messaging service engine (4). The users use a simple text messaging command to switch off and on the IPC. The web server (3) manages one or more digital display devices connected to the IPCs and provides the IPCs with the preset content schedule and content for display on the digital display devices. The web server (3) is used to store, transmit and schedule the content. The web client (5) is configured for installation and accessing using wireless device.
The digital display device (1) is configured to display information which is unique and with or without synchronization with other digital display devices in the system. Each digital display device need not be located in the same network or geographical location and can be remotely activated or switched off. The contents which are displayed are selected from the group that includes static image, dynamic image, two dimensional videos and video broadcast/feeds in tandem with wireless private content and the said feed is uniform across all networks or unique for each network.
The system of the present invention controls the distribution of content and allows the user to interact via an array of hardware options such as magnetic strip cards, RFIDs and fingerprint recognition. The system contains no cable and no onsite operations and can be installed in high data security networks. In addition, the system allows the user to pause a digital poster currently playing using text messaging command from the mobile phone (8). It also allows the user to
SMS text messages on to the screen directly.
The preset content schedule and content provided in the IPC (2) can be altered by communicating to the messaging service engine (4) which would communicate the same to the digital display devices connected to the IPCs and update the web server(3). The alteration can be done dynamically and in real time. The scheduled alteration can be configured to affect a single display or a group of displays.
The communication to the messaging service engine (4) is through means of wireless device that is vide Short Messaging Service or by means of a customized dashboard to send bulk messages.
