Abstract

Process for hydrogenating an organic compound having at least one carbonyl group, in which the organic compound is contacted, in the presence of hydrogen, with a shaped body which is producible in a process in which (i) an oxidic material comprising copper oxide and aluminum oxide and at least one of the oxides of iron, lanthanum, tungsten, molybdenum, titanium, zirconium, tin or manganese, and if appropriate additionally tin oxide and/or manganese oxide, is provided, (ii) pulverulent metallic copper, copper flakes, pulverulent cement, graphite or a mix-ture thereof are added to the oxidic material, (iii) the mixture resulting from (ii) is shaped to a shaped body and (iv) the shaped body is treated with water or steam.
