Abstract

A method for production of an insulated electric DC-cable comprising the steps of extruding a polymer based insulation system comprising a compounded polyethylene around a conductor and subsequently cross-linking the PE composition. The PE composition is pretreated such that the resulting cross-linked PE composition, XLPE, composition, comprises polar groups bonded to the cross-linked structure. Molecular oxygen is, during this pretreatment, introduced into the compounded PE composition prior to the PE composition being extruded from the extruder head.
