Abstract

1,021,136. Roller mills. J. RETTENMAIER, J. RETTENMAIER, and O. RETTENMAIER, [trading as J. RETTENMAIER & SOHNE], Aug. 4, 1964 [July 31, 1963], No. 31107/64. Heading B2A. A method of feeding material consisting of relatively small particles, e.g. wood particles, husks or a mixture of different particles, to the gap between a pair of crushing rollers is characterized in that the material accumulating before the gap is fed to the gap under a pressure exceeding the force of gravity acting only vertically downwardly on the material e.g. a mechanical pressure. Apparatus for carrying out the method comprises a reciprocating tamping plate 50 for supplying material at varying pressure to the gap 25 between crushing rollers 11, 12. The plate 50 is connected to a pin 56 on an eccentric crank plate 55 driven by a motor 54, the plate 50 being guided during its reciprocating movement by leaf springs or by rollers 61. Particles 31 contained in a hopper 30 are fed through a duct 35 to a duct 37 containing rotatable screws 40 which feed the material under compression to a closed space 70 when the plate 50 is retracted. The plate 50 moves in a closed passage comprising side walls 64, 66 and sealing means 63 and 67. The screws 40 are supported in bearings 41 and 42 and are rotated from a motor 43. The rollers 11, 12 preferably have a diameter between 200 mm. and 300 mm. and rotate at 40 revolutions per minute.
