Abstract

The method involves pumping a lubricant i.e. oil, from an oil sump (2) of a transmission (1) to a lubrication point (4) in the transmission using a mechanically-driven oil pump (3), and cooling the oil of the oil sump in an oil cooling system (14). The oil is pumped from the oil sump to the oil cooling system by a separate electrically driven oil pump (13) in response to demand for cooling the oil in the oil cooling system. The mechanically-driven oil pump is driven by an auxiliary shaft (12) of the transmission. An independent claim is also included for an arrangement for lubricating and cooling a transmission.
