Claims (4)
- 측편광판(1), 제1의 위상차판(2), STN(supertwisted nematic) 액정패널(3), 제 2의 위상차판(4) 및 하측편광판(5)을 순서로 적층배설한 액정표시장치에 있어서, 상기 제1의 위상차판(2)과 제2의 위상차판(4)의 레터데이션치가 동일하고, 이들의 레터데이션치는 330∼500nm로 하며, 아울러 상기 제1의 위상차판(2)과 제2의 위상차판(4)이 상기 STN 액정패널(3)의 앞뒤에 대칭적으로 θ1+θ2=180°의 관계로 각각 배치되어 있고, 여기에서 θ1은 상기 STN 액정패널을 구성하는 상측기판의 액정분자 배향축과 상기 제1의 위상차판 광학축이 이루는 각이며, θ2는 상기 STN 액정패널을 구성하는 하측기판의 액정분자 배향축과 상기 제2의 위상차판 광학축이 이루는 각도이며, 그리고 θ1과 θ2는 모두 45°보다 큰 것을 특징으로 하는 액정표시장치
- 제1항에 있어서 상기 제1의 위상차판(2)과 제2의 위상차판(4)의 레터데이션치는 330∼420nm의 범위내인 것을 특징으로하는 액정표시장치.
- 제1항에 있어서 상기 제1의 위상차판(2)과 제2의 위상차판(4)은 각각1매 또는 복수매의 일축성 고분자필림으로 구성되어 있는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정표시장치.
- 제1항에 있어서, 소정의 트위스트각 및 레터데이션치(Re(panel))를 갖는 STN 액정패널(3)을 포함하되, 상기 제1의 위상차판(2) 및 제2의 위상차판(4)의 레터데이션치를 각각 Re1으로 하고, 상기 제1의 위상차판(2) 및 제2의 위상차판(4)에 의한 실효의 레터네이션치를 Re2로 하며, 상기 제1의 위상차판(2)과 제2의 위상차판(4)의 광학축이 이루는 각도를 θ라 할때, Re(panel)와 Re1의 상관관계를 표시하는 그래프로부터 Re1의 개략치는 선택되고,nRe2= Re(panel)× 3/2(n=1 or 2)로부터 Re2의 개략치는 산출되며, 다시금 Re2=2Re1 cosθ로부터 θ의 개략치는 산출되어서, 제1의 위상차판(2) 및 제2의 위상차판(4)이 배설된 것을 특징으로 하는액정표시장치.
