제1도는 본 발명에 의한 액정표시소자에 있어서의 전극기판의 액정 분자배열방향과, 액정분자의 트위스트방향 및 편광기의 축간의 일반적인 상관관계도.
제2도는 본 발명에 의한 액정표시소자의 사시도.
제3도는 본 발명의 구체적인 실시예에 있어서의 제1도와 유사한 설명도.

Claims (6)

  1. 서로대향배열되어 그 사이에 액정층이 협지된 한쌍의 전극 기판을 구비하고, 상기 액정층은 정의 유전이방사성을 가지는 네마틱액정을 포함함과 동시에 신광성물질이 첨가되고, 상기 각 전극기판은 적국기판에 인접한 액정분자가 소정방향으로 배열되는 표면구조를 가지고, 상기 액정층은 그 두께방향을 따라서 160°내지 360°범위내에서 트위스트된 나선구조를 가지고, 상기 액정층 양측의 상기 전극기판에 인접배열된 한쌍의 편광기를 구비하고, 상기 각 편광기는 이 편광기에 인접한 전극기판의 액정분자 배열방향에 대하여 소정각 만큼 경사진 편광축을 가지고, 상기 편광기중 적어도 하나는 편광기의 편광축과 전극기판의 액정분자 배열방향간의 불일치로 인해 야기되는 복굴절 효과에 의한 발색을 보상하는 분광특성을 가지므로써 소자로부터의 표시광을 대략 무색이 되게하는 색 편광기로 구성되는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정표시소자.
  2. 제1항에 있어서, 전극기판의 액정소자 배열방향에 대한 편광기광축의 상기 소정의 경사각은 20°내지 70°범위내에 있는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정표시소자.
  3. 제2항에 있어서, 상기 액정층의 두께d(㎛)와 상기 네마틱액정의 광학이방성 Δn의 곱 Δn·d은 0.7㎛ 내지 1.2㎛ 범위내에 있는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정표시소자.
  4. 제3항에 있어서, 상기 색편광기의 분광특성은 제9도의 커브(A)와 커브(B)간에 구획된 영역에 해당하도록 선택되는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정표시소자.
  5. 제2항에 있어서, 상기 편광기 중의 하나에 인접배열된 반사판을 포함하고, 한 편광기는 상기 색편광기로 구성되는 한편 다른 편광기는 중성편광기로 구성되는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정표시소자.
  6. 제3항에 있어서, 상기 색편광기는 자홍색편광기인 것을 특징으로 하는 액정표시소자.
