- 호기성 박테리아를 함유한 슬러지를 사용하여 반응기 내에서 황화물을 산화시키는 황화물 함유 폐수의 정제 방법에 있어서, 시간 당 슬러지 중에 존재하는 질소 1mg당 황화물 10mg 이상의 슬러지 로드(이 슬러지 로드는 슬러지 중의 황화물 산화부를 기준으로 하여 계산함)를 반응기에 사용하는 것이 특징인 폐수의 정제방법.
- 제1항에 있어서, 슬러지 로드가, 시간 당 슬러지 중에 존재하는 질소 1mg 당 황화물 20mg이상인 것이 특징인 폐수의 정제방법.

- 제1항 내지 제3항 중 어느 하나의 항에 있어서, 상기 황화물은 실질적으로 황 원소로 산화되는 것이 특징인 폐수의 정제방법.
- 제1항 내지 제3항 중 어느 하나의 항에 있어서, 호기적 반응기의 유출액 중의 황화물 농도는 0.5mg/ℓ 내지 30mg/ℓ로 유지시키는 것이 특징인 폐수의 정제방법.

- (a) 적어도 일부의 황화물을 25mg S/ℓ/시간 이상의 황화물 로드를 사용하여 제1호기적 반응기 내에서 황 원소로 산화시키는 단계, (b) 황원소, 임의 존재의 황화물과 다른 성분들을 함유하는 단계(a)에서 얻은 액체를 제2호기적 반응기 내로 공급하여 황 및 황화물을 황산염으로 산화시키는 단계를 포함하는 것이 특징인 황화물 함유 폐수의 정제방법.
- 제12항에 있어서, 단계(a)에서 50mg S/ℓ/시간 이상의 황화물 로드를 사용하는 것이 특징인 폐수의 정제방법.
- 제12항에 있어서, 단계(a)에서 100mg S/ℓ/시간 내지 1,000mg S/ℓ/시간 이상의 황화물 로드를 사용하는 것이 특징인 폐수의 정제방법.
- 제1항에 있어서, 폐수가 고함량의 황 화합물을 함유하는 경우 혐기적 처리에 의해 상기 황화합물을 황화물로 환원시키는 단계를 더 포함하는 것이 특징인 폐수의 정제 방법.
- 제15항에 있어서, 황화물을 제거한후 정제된 물의 일부를 처리할 폐수로 재순환시키는 것이 특징인 폐수의 정제방법.

- 황 화합물을 함유하고, 금속 이온과 반응하여 금속 황화물을 형성하는 황화물 이온 또한 함유하는 폐수로부터 중금속 이온을 제거하는 방법에 있어서, 잔류하는 황화물은 제1항 내지 제14항중 어느 하나의 항의 방법을 이용하여 호기적 단계에서 황 원소로 산화시키는 것이 특징인 방법.
- 제21항에 있어서, 상기 폐수 중에 이미 존재하거나 및/또는 폐수중에 황 화합물의 혐기적 환원으로 인해 폐수가 황화물 이온을 함유하게 되는 것이 특징인 방법.
- 제22항에 있어서, 상기 혐기적 환원 과정 동안에, 중금속 이온이 실질적으로 완전히 침전화되기에 충분한 황/금속 비를 사용하는 것이 특징인 방법.
- 제21항 내지 제23항 중 어느 하나의 항에 있어서, 상기 호기적 단계에서 음극 산화 환원 전위를 -100 mV 이하로 유지시키는 것이 특징인 방법.
- 제21항 내지 제23항 중 어느 하나의 항에 있어서, 상기 호기적 단계에서 황화물 이온의 농도를 0.1 mg/ℓ 내지 50 mg/ℓ로 유지시키는 것이 특징인 방법.
