Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve the dispersibility of a filler, the adhesiveness of a magnetic layer to a base and the durability of said layer by incorporating prescribed ratios of a specific resin and nonmagnetic particles having prescribed Mohs' hardness into the binder resin of the magnetic layer. CONSTITUTION:The nonmagnetic material particles having >=5 Mohs' hardness are dispersed and kneaded together with ferromagnetic material particles at 50-80wt.% of the total weight of the magnetic layer into the binder resin soln. contg. the vinyl chloride resin having acidic groups (including salts), epoxy group and hydroxyl group and the magnetic coating compd. prepd. in such a manner is coated on a nonmagnetic supporting substrate to form the disk- shaped recording medium. The acidic groups of the vinyl chloride resin are preferably a sulfo group, phospho group and carboxy group and the metals forming the salts with said acids are preferably Li, K and Na. The amt. of the resin to be used is preferably 5-25wt.%, more particularly preferably 10-25wt.% of the weight of the ferromagnetic powder. The nonmagnetic particles are preferably alpha-A2O3 powder, Cr2O3 powder and SiC powder and the content of the nonmagnetic particles is preferably 50-80wt.%, more particu larly preferably 55-75wt.% of the total weight of the magnetic layer.
