Abstract
PURPOSE:To produce the title high-strength high-modulus homogeneous material without forming voids, by laminating reinforcing fibrous materials whose interstices are filled with a thermosetting resin, obtained by soaking reinforcing fibrous materials in a thermoplastic resin solution and drying them, and hot- pressing the assemblage. CONSTITUTION:Reinforcing fibrous materials (e.g., carbon fiber or glass fiber) are soaked in a thermoplastic resin solution obtained by dissolving a solvent- soluble thermoplastic resin (e.g., nylon 6/66/610 terpolymer) in a solvent (e.g., methanol, toluene or methyl ethyl ketone) to penetrate the thermoplastic resin solution into the inside of the reinforcing fibrous materials throughout to make reinforcing fibrous materials whose interstices are uniformly filled with the thermoplastic resin. These reinforcing fibrous materials are laminated, and the resulting assemblage is hot-pressed to produce a fiber-reinforced composite material. This composite material can be used extensively as a uniform void-free industrial member of a high strength and a high modulus and sporting goods and equipment for leisure time amusement.
