Abstract

PURPOSE:To detect conditions for denying a handwritten stroke and to remove unproper parts by calculating a segment angle, an angle formed by two segments and the length of the segments from a coordinate data string after extracting feature points. CONSTITUTION:A tablet 1 is a panel-shaped coordinate input device, and when a fixed stroke is drawn on the panel, a coordinate data string along the line can be obtained. A preprocessing part 2 removes unnecessary data such as noise from the data string and executes processing so that the data string inputed as a curve is expressed as the set of straight lines. A feature point extracting part 3 extracts feature points from the data string straightened by the preprocessing part 2. A sweeping-up/hanging part is removed from the obtained data string by a sweeping-up/hanging part removing part 4. A recognizing part 5 compares the obtained data with a pattern data registered in a dictionary part 6 to recognize the character.
