Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a magnetic recording medium which is capable of satisfying both high-density magnetic recording performance and durability by providing a lubricating layer on a magnetic recording layer consisting of a plasma- polymerized layer contg. a specific ratio of fine ferromagnetic alloy particles. CONSTITUTION:The magnetic recording layer 2 consisting of the plasma- polymerized layer contg. >=50 and <=75% fine ferromagnetic alloy particle is formed on the high-polymer film 1 and the lubricating layer 3 is provided thereon. The saturation magnetization of the magnetic recording layer 2 is increased and the short wavelength output is improved if the recording medium is constituted in such a manner. Since the fine ferromagnetic alloy particles are uniformly dispersed into the plasma-polymerized layer, noises are improved and the C/N at the time of the high-density magnetic recording is consequently improved. Furthermore, the fine ferromagnetic alloy particle are incorporated at a high packing density in the magnetic recording layer and, therefore, the hardness of the magnetic recording layer is increased and the fine projections are densely formed with the surface roughness. Durability is thus improved.
