Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce ununiform thickness and realize longitudinal and lateral tenacities, which are nearly the same as each other, by a method wherein melt- extruded polyester is laterally and, longitudinally or biaxially stretched by the specified areal magnification and finally again stretched laterally by the draw ratio of less than the specified value. CONSTITUTION:The major acid component of polyester is terephthalic acid or its esterifiable derivative and the major glycol component is ethylene glycol. Further, the acid component of about 20mol.% and less such as aromatic dicarboxylic acid, its esterifiable derivative or the like incorporated as copolymer component may well be regarded as said acid component. As the manufacture of polyester, direct polymerization method, ester exchange method or the like is employed. Polyester is melt-extruded in the form of film or sheet and, firstly, stretched laterally and, after that, longitudinally by controlling both draw ratios so as to realize the areal magnification by 6-15 times. The biaxially stretched polyester is again laterally stretched by less than 20%.
