Abstract

PURPOSE:To adequately supply an electrolyte to an electrode by compressing during cell assembly to obtain a fuel cell having small polarization by limiting the porosity of an electrolyte plate to 60-70%. CONSTITUTION:An electrolyte plate 2 is interposed between an anode 3 and a cathode 4 and a three-phase interface of molten carbonate, the electrode, and a reaction gas is formed within the electrode. The porosity of the electrolyte plate 2 is limited to 60-70%. Shrinkage percentage of the electrolyte plate produced by compressing during cell assembly is about 20%, and electrolyte retention capability of the electrolyte plate is excellent. The electrolyte is adequately supplied to the electrode by compressing during cell assembly, and the polarization of the fuel cell is reduced.
