Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a partially hydrogenated product of the title polymer, by adding a specified solvent to a liq. reaction mixture obtd. by hydrogenating an unsatd. nitrile polymer in the presence of a catalyst in a solvent in a hydrogen atmosphere, thereby separating and recovering the catalyst in a high efficiency. CONSTITUTION:An unsatd. nitrile polymer A obtd. from 15-48wt.% (meth) acrylonitrile, 52-85wt.% conjugated diene monomer and, if necessary, at most 10wt.% copolymerizable monomer is hydrogenated in the presence of a homogeneous catalyst system B consisting of Ru and phosphine in an amt. of 10-1,000ppm per component A in a solvent which is one of 3-10C ketones in a hydrogen atmosphere to give a liq. reaction mixture. To this liq. reaction mixture is added a solvent C which is one of aliph. alcohols, aliph. nitriles and arom. nitriles and has at least an alcoholic hydroxyl or nitrile group, whereby component B and the partially hydrogenated component A are separated. Then, component B is recovered, and the partially hydrogenated product of component A is obtd.
