Abstract
PURPOSE:To manufacture a varistor having excellent characteristics through one-time baking by a method wherein a setter consisting of a zinc oxide molding is mounted between a sheath and a cover, a varistor molding containing bismuth oxide is baked, the inside of the sheath is brought to a bismuth oxide atmosphere in a sintering process and the varistor mainly comprising zinc oxide is baked in the atmosphere. CONSTITUTION:A varistor molding mainly comprising zinc oxide represented by 6a to be baked in a sheath 4 and containing at least bismuth oxide as an additive is positioned onto a base on which laying powder is laid. On the other hand, several setters composed of a zinc oxide molding represented by 7a are erected near edges in the sheath 4, and the upper sections of the setters are covered with a cover 5 so that the sheath 4 becomes hermetic when the setters 7 are shrunk. The varistor molding is baked for 1-5 hr at 1100-1300 deg.C by a single furnace or a tunnel furnace under the state. Accordingly, an excellent varistor having superior non-linearity and stabilized high-temperature load lifetime characteristics can be manufactured through one-time baking.
