Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce the hydrogen overvoltage of the titled cathode, to prolong the service life and to reduce the consumption of electric power by successively forming a coating layer contg. a Pt family metal component and a coating layer contg. a Ce component on an Ni substrate. CONSTITUTION:A liq. contg. particles of a Pt family metal or a salt thereof is stuck on an Ni substrate to form a first coating layer contg. a Pt family metal component on the substrate. A second coating layer contg. a Ce component is then formed in a similar way. The resulting cathode for electrolysis having the two coating layers on the Ni substrate has very low hydrogen overvoltage.
