An input shaft is pivotally supported on the front wall of the case via an input bearing, and the front end of a counter shaft disposed below the input shaft is pivotally supported on the front wall of the case via a counter front bearing. and a pair of recesses are formed in front of the front wall of the case in which the front surfaces of the respective bearings are exposed. In the gear transmission, a front wall of the case is provided at a rear end of the case, the front wall of the case being close to the tooth tip of the input gear provided on the input shaft and located above the bottom of the input bearing. A first through hole is provided that opens at the rear surface and communicates with one of the exposed recesses of the input bearing at the front end, and is located close to the tooth tips of the counter gear provided on the counter shaft and at the bottom of the counter front bearing.
