A hydrostatic bearing has a plurality of bearing pockets formed on the inner surface of the bearing, to which pressure fluid is supplied via a restriction, and a plurality of cooling passages are bored in the circumferential direction that pass through the bearing in the axial direction. A cap having a return groove that closes the opening of each cooling passage and allows fluid to flow from one cooling passage to another adjacent cooling passage is fixed to the surface so that each cooling passage is in continuous communication. A cooling fluid supply means is connected to an inlet opening that communicates with one end of the passage and opens on the bearing metal surface, and an outlet opening that communicates with the other end of the continuous passage and opens on the bearing metal surface communicates with the fluid tank.
