Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable to complete the grinding operation for a workpiece having a straight-lined part and a tapered part by a single chucking work by a method wherein the work table capable of freely pivoting within a fan shape range on a sliding table is linked with the sliding table through limit switches.
CONSTITUTION: The work table 2 is provided on the sliding table 1 air-cushioningly and pivotally within the fan shape range. The workpiece 7 is mounted between a headstock 6 and a tail stock 5 on the table 2. The pivoting movement within the fan shape range indicated by the arrows C and D is detected through a striking metal plate 8 for pivoting control and the limit switches 30a and 30a' equipped respectively on stopper pedestales 26 and 26'. The pedestal 26 is movably set in the position in accordance with the tapered part N of the workpiece 7 along a rail 28. To form the workpiece into the form having the straight-lined part M and the tapered part N, a grinding wheel 1 is, slong the table 1, reciprocated asindicated by the arrows A and B and then pivoted, together with the table 2, within the fan shape range determined by the travel of the striking metal plate 8 between the switches 30a and 30a' to complete the taper grinding.
