Abstract

PURPOSE:To directly detect hydrogen partial pressure, by a method wherein a proton conductive glass is used as a solid electrolyte, and a reference gas and gas to be measured are caused to flow on both surfaces of the glass to measure the hydrogen partial pressure from an electromotive force generated between electrodes. CONSTITUTION:A tube 11 is made of a solid electrolyte whose main component is NO/P2O5 (M is II A group element of a periodic law) and in which the molecular ratio of MO/P2O5 is within a range of 20/80-55/45, and a quartz glass tube 12 is placed outside the tube 11 to form a double tube. The outside of the tube 12 is surrounded with a heating furnace 6, and electrodes 2, 3 and the tube 11 are heated at a given temperature within a temperature range of 250-350 deg.C by means of a temperature regulator 7. A platinum paste is sintered to the electrodes 2 and 3 to produce a porous electrode catalyst. A reference gas (H2 gas of 1a tm) 4 is caused to flow into the tube 11, and a gas 5 to be measured is caused to flow between the tubes 11 and 12. An electromotive force generated between the electrodes 2 and 3 is indicated through an amplifier 8 by an indication recorder 9 to detect a hydrogen partial pressure in the gas 5. This enables to perform a precise measurement.
