Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain an intermediate tone image of a high tone wedge and high image resolution, by expressing the tone wedge of a micro image elements forming a image element with a matrix distribution in the brightness of >=3 steps of black, binary white and intermediate value between the black and the white respectively. CONSTITUTION:An image element 10 which forms an image is formed by arraying micro image elements 11 of 2X2 units of n=2 in a matrix form. The tone wedge of the element 11 is expressed in the brightness of 3 steps of black, binary white and intermediate value between the black and the white respectively. Thus the image elements 10 of the brightness of 9 tone wedges of 2Xn<2>+1=9 by the combination of the elements 11 in comparison with 5 tone wedges of 2Xn+1 with use of the brightness of 2 steps. Accordingly an intermediate tone image is obtained with a high tone wedge and high image resolution in comparison with an image obtained b using the micro image element in the brightness of 2 steps. The tone wedge of the micro image element can be decided by the black, the form with a prescribed color and its area, etc.
