Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a Silzin bronze alloy remarkably superior to a conventional Silzin bronze alloy in wear resistance and consisting of a prescribed percentage each of Si, Sn, P, Ti, graphite and Pb and/or Bi, and the balance Cu.
CONSTITUTION: This Silzin bronze alloy consists of, by wt., 0.5W5.0% Si, 5.0W 16.0% Zn, 0.1W1.0% P, 0.1W2.0% Ti, 1.0W10.0% graphite, 0.1W20.0% Pb and/or Bi, and the balance Cu. To the alloy may be added 0.1W2.0% Sn or further added 0.5W2.0% ≥2 kinds among Cr, Ce and La. By dispersing graphite as a solid lubricant in the matrix of a Silzin bronze alloy, the wear resistance is enhanced remarkably, and a synergistic effect on lubrication is produced by the coexistence of Pb and graphite, or Bi and graphite. The addition of Sn prevents stress corrosion cracking, and the addition of Cr, Ce, La, etc. gives a remarkably toughened Silzin bronze alloy.
