Abstract

PURPOSE: To cut a cam for a shorter time without leaving uncut side portions by reducing rotational speed of the cam blank while increasing cut-in speed of a grinding wheel so that the cut-in of the grinding wheel is completed while the cam blank is rotated one revolution.
CONSTITUTION: A grinding wheel bed 2 is slidably mounted on a bed 1 and a grinding wheel 3 rotatably driven by a motor 4 is journally by said bed 2 into which a feed screw 5 is threaded. The screw 5 extends through a piston 7 of a quick feed cylinder 6 and connected to a driven shaft 9 through a gear train 8. When the bed 2 is located on the advance end of the quick feed, a limit switch LS1 is operated. A swing bed 14 is journalled by the bed 1, and when the bed 14 is located at the swing end in the counterclockwise direction, a limit switch LS2 is operated. The bed 14 is swung on the basis of contact between a master cam 14 and a cam roller 17 corresponding to the profile of the master cam to grind a cam blank W into a required form.
