Abstract

PURPOSE:To determine a sugar side chain related to cancer and to diagnose precisely various cancers by following procedures that a sugar side chain related to cancer in body fluids in reacted with lectin which has binding ability of L-fucose to form a complex, and an amount of the complex or the residual lectin is. CONSTITUTION:A sugar side chain (briefly expressed as TAG hereafter) which is produced by cancer cells in body liquids of cancer patients is separated from the body liquids, and reacted with lectin which has binding ability to L-fucose, and an amount of the complex or the residual lectin is measured. Otherwise a labeled lectin which is capable of binding to L-fucose is added to a body liquid itself and reacted with the liquid, then the TAG-labeled lectin complex or the unreacted labeled lectin is separated, and TAG in the body liquid is determined by measuring either amount of them.
