Abstract
PURPOSE: To utilize ammonium sulfate formed from a desulfurization waste liquor of coke oven gas as a by-product effectively, by oxidizing the desulfurization waste liquor, filtering the waste, decomposing the adhering ammonium thiocyanate, and using the resultant ammonium sulfate solution in a step for removing ammonia.
CONSTITUTION: A desulfurization waste liquor discharged from a wet desulfurizing apparatus of coke oven gas is oxidized under such conditions as to decompose ammonium thiocyanate with difficulty, e.g. a low temperature of 200°C or below and a neutral or alkaline pH, while blowing a gas containing oxygen thereinto by the wet method to convert ammonium thiosulfate into ammonium sulfate. The resultant ammonium sulfate is then crystallized, filtered and separated from the ammonium thiocyanate. Sulfuric acid in an amount of equivalent or more to the adhering ammonium thiocyanate is added to the filtered ammonium sulfate to decompose the ammonium thiocyanate under heating. The resultant ammonium sulfte solution after the decomposition is used as an ammonium sulfate mother liquor in the step for removing ammonia from coke oven gas.
