Abstract

PURPOSE: To increase the corrosion resistance of a heat exchanger by making its main construction member which may be damaged by corrosion of aluminum alloy of relatively higher electric potential and making its subconstruction member with aluminum alloy of electric potential lower than the former one.
CONSTITUTION: Main construction parts of a heat exchanger such as tubes of a heat exchanger are made of an alloy which contains 0.2W2.0% Cu, and if necessary, also contains 0.01W0.5% Zr, one of 0.05W0.5% Mn and/or Cr, and the balance consisting of Al and impurities. On the other hand, subconstruction parts of the exchanger such as fins are made of an alloy which is selected among a group of alloys of pure aluminum and A-Mg-Si family and which contains less than 0.2% Cu. If the Cu content of the former alloy exceeds 2%, electric potential becomes higher, and strngth the material is improved but corrosion resistance tends to be reduced. Therefore, to increase the strength and potential without deteriorating corrosion resistance, Cu content of 0.2W2.0% is recommended.
