Abstract
PURPOSE:To further enhance the corrosion resistance of steel products each having a decarburized layer formed on the surface by coating the surfaces of the products with Al and allowing Al to diffuse and penetrate into the surface parts by heating. CONSTITUTION:Steel products are heated in an atmosphere of hydrogen or the air to form decarburized layers each having a prescribed thickness on the surfaces, and they are dipped in molten Al to coat the surfaces with Al. The Al coated products are heated in the air, an inert gas such as N2 or Ar or a vacuum to allow Al to diffuse and penetrate into the surface parts of the products. Thus, a decarburized layer D made of ferrite, a diffused layer K (FeAl2, alpha solid soln.) and an Al plated layer A (FeAl3, FeAl5) exist on each base material M (ferrite + carbide structure) in order. The thickness of each layer D, K, A is regulated according to the usage.
