Abstract

PURPOSE: To purify water contg. nitrogen compounds efficiently through removal of nitrogen-contg. compounds in the biological treatment of said water by circulating raw water between a nitrification tank wherein nitrification bacteria are supported on hollow yarn-like membranes and a denitrification tank wherein denitrification bacteria are supported.
CONSTITUTION: Hollow yarn-like membranes 4 made of polypropylene or the like are packed like loops in a tank 1, and are suspended and fixed by means of support bodies 6. Nitrification bacteria are stuck on the membranes 4 to form a nitrification tank 9. Similarly, a denitrification tank 8 wherein denitrification bacteria are stuck on hollow yarn-like membranes are formed. Water contg. nitrogen-contg. compounds is introduced through an inflow water inlet 2 of the tank 9, and an oxyge-contg. gas is taken in through an air feed pipe 5, and is vented through the inside of the membranes 4. The nitrified water is taken out through an outlet 3, and is introduced into the tank 8 where it is denitrified, after which it is circulated into the tank 9 by a liquid feed pump 10. The treated water is removed through an outflow pipe 12. Thereby, the efficiency of the water treatment is improved as the nitrification bacteria and denitrification bacteria provide sufficient functions.
