Abstract
PURPOSE: To decrease welding areas and to reduce weight by permitting production of a boom which is curved in the intermediate part and is used for hydraulic excavators and the like through opposite welding of two pieces of U-shaped materials over the entire length.
CONSTITUTION: An outer bent member 2 and an inner bent member 3 whech are beforehand formed into a U shape in section and into a linear shape are curved respectively outward and inward by means of roll benders 8a, 8b for outward bending and inward bending which respectively consist of at least one piece of a top roll 6 and at least two pieces of bottom rolls 7, 7 opposite thereto, and of both rolls whereof the roll on the side rollably contacting to the outer side of the webs of both members 2, 3 is provided with flanges 9, 9 silidingly contacting to the outer side surfaces on both sides in the root parts of both side walls of the respective members 2, 3, and the roll rollably contacting to the inner side of the webs is provided with grooves 10, 10 fitted with the leading end parts on both side walls of the respective members 2, 3. The respective end parts of both side walls of both members 2, 3 are opposed to each other and are coupled by welding.
