Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve the yield of N2 and to increase the content of nitrogen in molten steel by flowing gaseous N2 or liquid N2 to the sealed space region enclosing the casting flow of said steel. CONSTITUTION:The space region 10 enclosing the casting flow 5 wherein the molten steel 3 in a ladle 1 which is an upper vessel flows through a nozzle 4 down into a tundish 2 in a lower vessel is provided with a sealing body 17 consisting of a heat insulating material such as glass wool between an upper bracket 15 fixed to the lower part of a nozzle 12 and the upper part of a clay pipe 8 mounted to the charging port 6 of the tundish 2 in order to seal said space 10 in which gaseous N2 or liquid N2 is flowed through the nozzle 12. The gaseous N2 is flowed through said nozzle 12 at 100-3,000Nl/min or the liquid N2 at 0.2-5.0l/min into the steel, whereby the content of the nitrogen in the steel dropping into the tundish 2 is increased in a short time.
