Abstract
PURPOSE:To raise the fuel efficiency of an internal combustion engine, by recovering energy possessed by exhaust gas as kinetic energy of a piston by carrying exhaust gas in a cylinder into a crank chamber via an exhaust turbine and an inlet port of the crank chamber. CONSTITUTION:An internal combustion engine shown in the drawing comprises a piston 1, crank shaft 4, intake valve 6 for a cylinder, and an exhaust valve 8 for the cylinder. Exhaust gas in a cylinder chamber 2 is carried, after explosion, into a crank chamber 3 via the exhaust valve 8, exhaust turbine 9 and an inlet port 12 of the crank chamber 3. Rotation of the exhaust turbine 9 is continued by the force of inertia of a flywheel 11, and the inner space of the cylinder chamber 2 is evacuated, so that the piston 1 is pushed upward. Thus, it is enabled to recover energy possessed by exhaust gas as kinetic energy of the piston 1 and to thereby raise the fuel efficiency of the engine.
