Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a carboxylic acid in high yield, by reacting an olefin with CO and water, or reacting an alcohol with CO using a catalyst consisting of a specific ratio of hydrogen fluoride, boron trifluoride, and water in mild conditions.
CONSTITUTION: In preparing a carboxylic acid from the reaction of an olefin, CO, and water, or the reaction of an alcohol and CO, the reaction is carried out by using a catalyst consisting of hydrogen fluoride, boron tirfluoride and water in a molar ratio of 1W50:1:1W5 and making a molar ratio of hydrogen fluoride : raw material of 2W50:1 (preferably 2.5W20). In the reaction using the catalyst, conditions that CO pressure is 2W50kg/cm2 and reaction temperature is 0W80°C are sufficient, and it is improved effects that show better conversion under conditions that the reaction temperature is not higher than 60°C and CO pressure not more than 10kg/cm2.
