Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound in one step, under mild conditions, in high yield, by treating an aldehyde and an alcohol with a Pd-Te-/alkaline earth metal) catalyst in the presence of O2.
CONSTITUTION: An aldehyde and an alcohol are treated with a catalyst comprising (1) at least one of Pd and Pd-containing compounds (e.g. Pd chloride, Pd nitrate, etc.), (2) at least one of Te and Te-containing compounds (e.g. Te oxide, Te chloride, etc.) and (3) at least one of alkaline earth metals and their compounds, in the presence of O2 to give the titled compound. The catalyst is preferably supported on a carrier composed of the component (3). The preferable reaction temp. is 20W 80°C. Production of by-products by the oxidation of alcohols is extremely low. A small amount of the catalyst can give the titled compound easily and with high selectivity and conversion.
