Abstract

PURPOSE: To make best use of the advantages of soft welding and make joint strength more than equivalent to that of the materials to be welded by making the strength near the boundaries between the materials to be welded and deposited metal higher than that of the materials to be welded.
CONSTITUTION: A material of strength higher than that of the materials 1 to be welded is build-up-welded on the groove surfaces of the materials 1 to be welded and deposited metal 2' is constituted by a material of strength lower than that of the materials 1 to be welded by way of the build-up portion, whereby a weld zone 2 is formed. The groove is welded by a material of strength lower than that of the materials 1 to be welded, after which the weld heat affected zone is melted by high energy density beams such as electron beams or laser beams and is then frozen, whereby the reinforcing parts 3 made stronger than the materials 1 to be welded are formed. These result in that the fracture of the joint occurs in the portions to be welded sufficiently apart from the weld zone.
