Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent increase in voltage, deterioration of product due to gas bubbles, by equipping a vertical electrolytic cell using a diaphragm with withdrawal path for reaction product having inflow opening at a position in the upper part of a unit electrolytic cell and in a lower part than the operating surface of the diaphragm. CONSTITUTION:The cathodic chamber frame 1 of a vertical electrolytic cell forms a cathodic chamber space 6 with a partition wall 4 and a flange 5. The cathodic chamber is equipped with a diaphragm 8, an electrode 7, a feed opening, a withdrawal opening 3, and a withdrawal path 12 for the reaction product having inflow opening 11, which is lower than the electrolytic operation surface of the diaphragm 4. Hereby gas bubbles formed in the electrodic chamber is drawn off quickly to the outside so as to prevent the contact of the bubble layer with the cation exchange membrane 8, hence deterioration of the ion exchange membrane and in the quality of the product are prevented. Said path 12 may be installed in unit cathodic or anodic chamber, however more preferably in the cathodic chamber.
