Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the deterioration of the lead wire due to the high-temperature gas and then enhance the durability of the gas component detecting element, by covering the lead wire of the electrode of the detecting element used at a high temperature and in the oxidizing and reducing atmosphere with the heat-resistant ceramic.
CONSTITUTION: Heat-resistant metal wire 2 (like platinum wire) serving both as the electrode and the lead wire is held between two sheets which are obtained by molding the mixture of the powder of the transition metal oxide and the organic binder. Then both sheets are adhered together and then burnt to form a gas component detecting element consisting of element main body 1 plus wire 2 serving both as the electrode. After this, the ceramic powder such as the zirconia powder, the alumina powder or the like having the heat resistance is coated over the surface of wire 2 of the above-mentioned element. Thus ceramic coated layer 7 is obtained.
